Coyote Crier - April 2020

Dear Canyon Creek Families,

Wow! It can be overwhelming to keep up with all of the messages, news, and public announcements we are all receiving so frequently lately. So, I will keep this fairly short.

Although our focus has been on COVID-19, our school closure, and distance learning, I would still like to take a moment to thank our amazing PTA. Our school is blessed to have the support of an active PTA. It is the strongest PTA I have been fortunate enough to work with during my years working in schools. Our PTA is organized and has a broad volunteer base, with many volunteers sharing the load in serving the school community. Your efforts help make Canyon Creek a great place for students and families. I cannot thank you enough for all of the time, energy, resources and talent you share with our students and staff. Thank you, Canyon Creek PTA; we appreciate all that you do for our school!

This week is Spring Break, so many teachers will unplug from distance learning to spend time with their families. Personally, in addition to spending time with my wife and son, I will be spending some time on household projects, including getting a nursery ready for our daughter who will be joining us at the end of May. Even though we have been away from school, the last month has been pretty crazy and has included a lot of ups and downs. This week will be helpful for staff members to rest and reenergize for the remainder of our school year and whatever that holds.

I am sure that many of you had plans for the break that have now gone out the window. While our current circumstances in the world may not be ideal for vacations, I hope that you and your family are able to enjoy time together, a change in routine, and a slower pace. If your family is in a place where maintaining a routine will be more helpful, remember that there are a variety of resources for learning at home on our Canyon Creek Away-From-School Hub and the Northshore Website. Thank you for helping our community, state and nation stay safe by staying home. Stay healthy!

In the Know!

  Champions Has Space

The Champions crew has continued to provide
childcare during our school closure. They have
been able to provide amazing care to families
who are experiencing great levels of stress and anxiety in this season. They have partnered with the NSD and King/Snohomish County Health Departments to provide crucial tools and techniques on increased sanitation methods including support from the custodial staff. Their teams have modified group games and materials to be safe for the kids to use. Classroom ratios have decreased from 1:15 to a 1:9 ratio; which has allowed us to safely roll out our educational curriculum with social distancing and social emotional learning at the forefront. They still have plenty of spaces available. If you are in need of childcare during the school closure, please visit Northshore / Bothell Champions Registration. Families do not have to be currently enrolled in Champions nor do they need to attend the Northshore School District to take part in Champions.

2020-2021 School Year Calendar

For our district, this has been quite a year. And with a community like ours, we continue to meet every challenge thoughtfully, creatively, and with an eye toward the future. Such is the case with planning for the 2020-21 school year. We worked collaboratively with NSEA on a calendar that considered the needs of our families and staff. Today, we finalized dates for elementary conferences, and we now have an approved calendar. So, barring any unusual circumstances, this is the calendar for the 2020-21 school year. Of course, if any unusual circumstances do arise, we will be ready because We are Northshore! Together, all things are possible… Click here
