Dear Canyon Creek Families,
I hope this newsletter finds you healthy and safe during these challenging times. I have been thinking about you! What we are all doing now is nothing that we could have ever imagined, not in our lifetime. While the governor’s announcement about schools remaining closed for the remainder of the year evoked a sense of loss for many of us, I know it is in our best interest to continue with Northshore Learns 2.0.
Northshore Learns 2.0 is as much about the social and emotional connections our teachers have with kids as it is about academic learning. Teachers are using their Office Hours to connect with individual students or small groups of students to provide extra help, give feedback, or just check and connect. While class sessions include instruction, many teachers are using time for class meetings and helping students connect with each other. I hope that your child is also having opportunities to interact with other children.
As we have spent more and more time away from school, I have heard from parents expressing many feelings: fear or guilt about your child falling behind, frustration over your child not being willing to do school work at home, sheer exhaustion of working from home yourself while trying to care for and manage learning for your children, and/or worry about providing for the basic needs of your family. Trust me, you are not alone! Please prioritize the relationships in your family and your emotional well-being over following a rigid learning schedule.
Related to that, I want to share with you a quote with you that I saw on the “Teacher Goals” page on Facebook: “If I can leave you with one thing, it’s this: at the end of all of this, your kids’ mental health will be more important than their academic skills. And how they felt during this time will stay with them long after the memory of what they did during those four or more weeks is long gone.”
Please continue to take care of yourself, your family, and others around you. Check in on those who may be living on their own, write a letter to the grandparents, and embrace this time, while not chosen, as a time to slow down and honor the time with each other. When we do go back to moving around town and back to school, what is it about this time that you would like to hold onto?
Everything we are all doing right now is hard! Do the best you can and give yourself (and those around you) grace. We are all doing what we are doing in a crisis situation and it isn’t normal. We are all experiencing loss and a huge disruption of our routines. It is okay to NOT be amazing. We will continue to do our best, too! We are here, alongside you, just a few clicks away, and know that we care so much about our Canyon Creek children and families.

Parent Input Form for Class
An online parental input form is available for
those parents who would like to provide
input regarding classroom placement for
placement for the next school year. Our staff carefully considers placement options based on our understanding of your child's needs. Parents may have additional insights that help us ensure a productive year. Please know that we cannot accommodate requests for specific teachers. Completion of this form is optional and parents wishing to share input should complete the form online by Friday, May 8.
Staff Appreciation Week: May 4-8
Did you know that this week is Staff Appreciation week? At Canyon Creek we take this as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions of all school staff. It takes many people in many different positions to support students and make the school run smoothly. If your circumstances allow it, I hope you and your child take this time as an opportunity to, let teachers and other school staff members know how much you recognize and appreciate their hard work. Everyone enjoys receiving a thoughtful note or a friendly email that reminds them that they are appreciated.
We will shift the instructional day of Monday, May 25 to Tuesday, May 26. Students who are supported in Special Education programs should work with their teacher of Special Education on Tuesday, and not with their general education teacher.
Last date to order a yearbook online is Wednesday, May 13th. There will be no extras to purchase, as was available in the past. If you don't order, you won't get one.
Firefly has made online yearbook purchasing available. Pricing will not change. If you have already placed an order, there is no need to order again online.
Reporting and Absence/Correcting Attendance
Please take a moment to review your students' attendance through ParentVue. To report your absent or if they are unable to participate, email the teacher and attendance at firstname.lastname@example.org. This will allow attendance to reflect the correct status for your student.

Note From the Nurse
I trust this newsletter finds our students, families and staff taking care of yourselves, your friends, and your families by staying home, healthy, and safe. While school is not in session, I am still working at home and available for questions or concerns via phone or email (preferred). Feel free to reach out and contact me during (what used to be) school hours. I have listed resources below that might be helpful.

Unless you have an urgent need or shortage of a needed medication at home, please wait for more information regarding this. Volunteers and Community Partners
We are so grateful for all of the amazing volunteers who have stepped up to help the Northshore community! Free Meals for Children
We are committed to providing access to the nutrition Northshore students need. While schools are closed, we are offering free meals for all children.
New Order Times
Families need to order meals between noon and midnight the day before meals are needed. For example, if you need a meal on Monday you must order it Sunday afternoon.
Las familias deben ordenar las comidas entre el mediodía y la medianoche del día anterior a las comidas. Por ejemplo, si necesita una comida el lunes, debe pedirla el domingo por la tarde.
- Free meals for children ages 18 and younger
- Free breakfast will be delivered with each meal
- Children do not need to be enrolled in the Northshore School District
- Meals must be preordered the day before between noon and midnight.
- So we are able to continue serving families, most meals will be served cold and ready to heat at home.
- Please practice social distancing if you are waiting in line to pick up a meal.

Technology is Still Available
Students can still get devices if they need them. All families should contact the Student Technology Support Line at 425-408-7669 (even families that initially requested a device from your campus but never picked it up). Technology staff will support families in scheduling an appointment to pick up a device.
School Supplies for Students Who Need Them
Using our Resources to Meet Unexpected Needs
When students and teachers were called away from schools in March, we didn't think it would be for the rest of the school year.
Now over a month in, some students are struggling to get their school work done because many of the supplies are provided for students at school.
The Northshore Schools Foundation is putting the surplus of school supplies from our annual Backpacks for Kids Drive, into the hands of students who need them.
