Introducing the “Coyote P.E.A.C.E. Corps!”
People Enriching All Children’s Education
Building on the success of our former Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) Program at Canyon Creek, we are excited to announce Coyote P.E.A.C.E. (People Enriching All Students’ Education) Corps - an expanded, more inclusive program to involve positive adult role models at school in a manner that more closely aligns with Canyon Creek’s culture, community and priorities.
Coyote P.E.A.C.E. Corps is an opportunity for any adult family member or relative of our students. Coyote P.E.A.C.E. Corps volunteers spend the majority of a school day (normally 9:00 am - 1:30 pm) on campus. They will enjoy time with their own student(s) throughout the day while also serving as a positive presence for all of our students, especially those who benefit most from positive adult support and encouragement.
We are seeking volunteers who are interested and comfortable proactively engaging with students in a variety of settings throughout the day.
As a Coyote P.E.A.C.E. Corps Volunteer, your typical day may include:
-
Support during morning arrival
-
Time in the classroom(s) of your own student(s)
-
Lunch and Recess with your own student(s)
-
Supporting students in our Learning Center (individual/small group reading, playing educational games, etc.)
-
Potentially supporting a P.E. or Music Class, or helping in the Office
-
Helping oversee and/or engaging in group activities at Recesses (basketball, soccer, cricket, football, tag games, four square, jump roping, etc.)
Get started with these two steps:
-
Complete the NSD Volunteer Application on the District Website if you have not already done so this school year: https://www.nsd.org/get-involved/volunteer/become-a-volunteer
-
Sign up for a specific day (or days) here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0C49A5A92CA7F94-coyote
Once you have signed up, you will receive an orientation packet to review prior to your visit that will include additional details, volunteer expectations and agreements, and a short survey to help us schedule your day.
We will also continue to offer the option of Lunch and Recess Support only for those who can not commit to the extended day. Please contact Bob Graff at rgraff@nsd.org for further information about this option.

Recently, we have seen an increase in students bringing toys, personal sports equipment, and trading cards such as Pokemon cards to school. These items can often become a distraction to student learning. Any toys that become a distraction to the owner or other students may be taken away for the remainder of the school day and returned to the student to take home or a parent may have to come pick it up. In order to prevent issues with loss or misuse during the day, we request that students do not bring these types of items to school. Sensory fidgets are allowed only if approved by your child’s teacher.
Playground toys are provided by the school for recess use. This includes soccer balls, basketballs, footballs, playground balls, jump ropes, hoola hoops, etc. Students are expected to use the school equipment appropriately and return them to the containers at the end of recess. Help make them last!
Personal sports equipment needs to be left at home to prevent issues with loss or misuse during the school day.
